Born and raised in the Bay Area, Kanchan has been immersed in performing arts for as long as she can remember. At age 5 she began training in Bollywood, Bharatanatyam, semi-classical, and folk dance forms as well as Western classical piano and Hindustani vocals. Throughout her undergraduate journey at UCLA, Kanchan ventured into Western genres including hip hop, house, contemporary, and waacking. As a lead and captain of UCLA Nashaa and a competitive member of NSU Modern, she fell in love with fusing the grace and expression of traditional Indian forms with the textures and syncopations of Western choreography. Today, Kanchan uses her multicultural dance and music background to develop creative visions from scratch, exploring anything from mental health struggles to the experiences of the South Asian diaspora.
